The MCCE Director, Group Captain Stuart Gregory, paid a visit to the Heavy Airlift Wing (HAW) located at Pápa Air Base, Hungary on 10 December.
The main purpose of the visit was to obtain an introduction to the HAW programme that utilizes the C-17 GLOBEMASTER for strategic deployments supporting 12 Member nations.
All of the HAW member nations are part of the MCCE Community and HAW plays an important role in supporting not only these member nations, but also the other MCCE nations with dedicated missions or most commonly with part loads to various missions in Afghanistan, Iraq and Africa, where one of the HAW nations is available to sponsor the service to a non-HAW MCCE MN.
The MCCE Director met with the squadron commanders and received a detailed introduction to the different areas. Main discussion topics were HAW organisation, facilities, capabilities and future challenges.
The HAW Vice Commander, Colonel Peder Söderström (SWE), and MCCE Director had an interesting discussion how MCCE would be able to increase support in the interest of the HAW programme and the MCCE Community.
