Ladies and Gentlemen,
Background:
The Swedish Armed Forces (SweAF) are planning a major national exercise, AURORA in 2026 closely linked to the Exercise US DEFENDER-26 umbrella. In order to have a controlled deployment of forces into Sweden we are planning to use the LOGFAS tool for planning and execute the deployment. Sweden has previous received support with LOGFAS knowledge from MCCE for exercises in 2017, 2020 and 2023.
Aim and Scope for AURORA 26:
AURORA 26 will be a Swedish Armed Forces sponsored LIVEX to train, rehearse and validate national as well as bi- and multi-lateral plans for the reinforcement of Finland and the Baltic States in a pre-Article 5 response operation and in a realistic threat environment. AURORA 26 will contribute to the overall readiness and demonstrate the cohesion of the Nordic countries. AURORA 26 is a Swedish national exercise, closely linked to US exercises IMMEDIATE RESPONSE 26 (IR 26) and BALTOPS 26.
AURORA 26 is an INVITEX and will be a Key Strategic Activity (KSA), as part of a Consolidated Strategic Opportunity (CSO) lead by Germany.
AURORA 26 will focus on the maritime and air domains in the Baltic Sea region. Reinforcement and Sustainment Network (RSN) and Reception, Staging, and Onward Movement (RSOM) of allied forces through Sweden and by Sea Lines of Communication (SLOC) to Finland and/or the Baltic states will be key activities together with Integrated Air and Missile Defences (IAMD), targeting and joint fires.
The Island of Gotland will be included in the exercise, focusing on allied long-range weapon systems reinforcement. Furthermore, total defences activities will be conducted mainly on Gotland, focusing on layered resilience and civil preparedness.
The exercise will be conducted as a coherent and continuous campaign tailored towards the Swedish national operational plans.
